# Social Recovery Signer

> Configure social recovery to let a trusted contact authorize wallet recovery.

<Warning>
  **You are viewing docs for the previous version of the Wallets SDK.** We recommend upgrading to V1.
  See the [updated version of this page](/wallets/concepts/recovery) or the [V1 migration guide](/wallets/guides/migrate-to-v1).
</Warning>

Social recovery lets a wallet owner designate a trusted contact — a friend, family member, or colleague — who can authorize wallet recovery on the owner's behalf via their own email or phone OTP. The trusted contact does not have access to the wallet itself; they can only co-authorize a recovery event.

This recovery mechanism is best used in combination with another recovery signer (such as email or SMS OTP) rather than in isolation.

For a conceptual overview, see [Social recovery](/wallets/v0/concepts/wallet-signers#social-recovery) in the Wallet Signers guide.
